Orange Crush(ed)

Red Scare: Trey
Veon Henderson (Greg) was the game's high scorer with 25 points.

College Football Playoff Round 1:

Ohio State 42, Tennessee 17

Who would have thought that despite how non-competitive the first game of the playoff was with Notre Dame-Indiana that it would be the closest contest of the first round at 27-17?

Kneel before Zod (or Emeka Egbuka in this case)
Ohio State showed there is life after Michigan and abruptly got down to business "straight clowning" Tennessee as the kids used to say. The Buckeyes put babies inside the Vols against their will all night long - and that's the nicest I can say it.

There were a number of stars for OSU but QB Will Howard (Greg), WR Jeremiah Smith (JD) and RB TreyVeon Henderson (Greg) led the way.

Howard put up 311 through the air with 37 rushing yards and passed for 2 TDs. Henderson added 134 total yards and two touchdowns on get this - on 14 touches (10 carries, 4 catches).

Smith totaled 103 receiving yards and two TDs.

Also we had another star running back too banged up to play that tried to give it a go and failed miserably with Vols RB Dylan Sampson (Chip) who had two carries for six yards and one catch for two joining Team Mafah for disappointment.

Scoring

OSU RB TreyVeon Henderson (Greg) 25 points

OSU WR Jeremiah Smith (JD) 24

OSU QB Will Howard (Greg) 21.5

OSU RB Quinshon Judkins (Greg) 16

OSU WR Emeka Egbuka (Chip) 8

Tenn. WR Don'te Thornton Jr. (Dave) 1

OSU WR Carnell Tate (Chip) 1

Tenn. RB Dylan Sampson (Chip) 0

Texas Toast

Blue blew by you: Ex-Team Pat RB Jaydon Blue had the biggest performance of the game which NO TEAM GOT TO USE. Curses!!

 College Football Playoff Round 1:

Texas 38, Clemson 24

Orange you glad we had points? This CFB game had the old-school scoring feel to it with big names making big plays with plenty of offense like we'd have in the olden days of our fantasy bowl games. In the end Texas had too much firepower despite heroics by Clemson QB Cade Klubnik who had arguably the best QB performance of anybody from the first round.

But we gotta start with Texas RB Jaydon Blue, a former Team Patrick (ex-Pat get it?) draft pick that he dropped on a whim that put up the biggest scoring performance of the day - 177 total yards and 2 touchdowns - although part of that was due to fellow Texas RB Tre Wisner getting hurt and leaving the game early.

Klubnik (Team Dave) put on a show for Clemson with 336 yards and 3 TD passes despite the Tigers playing short-handed. RB Phil Mafah (JD) was playing hurt and re-aggravated it only touching the ball four times in a bad break for fantasy and reality fortunes.

Scoring

Texas RB Jaydon Blue (nobody) 28 points

Clemson QB Cade Klubnik (Dave) 24

Texas RB Tre Wisner (Dave) 23

Texas TE Gunnar Helm (Dave) 13

Clemson WR Antonio Williams (Chip) 12

Clemson TE Jake Briningstool (Chip) 6

Texas WR Matthew Golden (Greg) 4

Texas WR Ryan Wingo (Patrick) 3

Clemson RB Phil Mafah (JD) 2

Texas WR DeAndre Moore (Patrick) 0

Kaytron Bomb

Team Patrick RB Kaytron Allen breaks 'em off somethin' proper

College Football Playoff Round 1:

Penn State 38, SMU 10

SMU at Penn St. reminded me of the annual MAC sacrifice at the altar of the Big 10 early every season - usually about Week 2 or 3. An overmatched mid-major looking team completely outclassed, with plenty of the damage self-inflicted.

The Nittany Lions scored its first two touchdowns from pick-6s off Kevin Jennings, then the running game took over, and then the SMU tears. It was almost enough to make PSU seem likable. Almost.

Team Patrick running backs Kaytron Allen had 98 yards total with two touchdowns and Nicholas Singleton 97 total with one TD to lead all scorers.

Scoring

PSU RB Kaytron Allen (Patrick) 21 points

PSU RB Nicholas Singleton (Patrick) 15

SMU WR Roderick Daniels (JD) 12

SMU RB Brashard Smith (Chip) 8

SMU QB Kevin Jennings (Chip) 8

PSU QB Drew Allar (Patrick) 5.5

PSU WR Harrison Wallace (Dave) 4

PSU TE Tyler Warren (Patrick) 3

Hoosier Daddy? ND.

Love is all you need: Jeremiyah Love scores from deep for Team Chip.

College Football Playoff Round 1:

Notre Dame 27, Indiana 17

Don't be fooled by the final score, it was never that close. After Kurtis Rourke's second throw of the game for an interception followed one play later by Jeremiyah "Love Hurts" 98-yard streak down the sideline for a TD it was essentially over.

The "Life of Riley" Leonard led all scorers with 20.5 with one TD passing and running each. Rourke led Indiana, but a timid game plan with lots of first down runs and odd punts didn't help things. Credit to the ABC announcer with "This is a kind of a duck of a game" in the third quarter right after a poor toss from Rourke. Yep.

Top scorers

ND QB Riley Leonard (David) 20.5 points

ND RB Jeremiyah Love (Chip) 18 points

Indy QB Kurtis Rourke (JD) 16.5 points

Indy WR Omar Cooper (Greg) 8 points

Indy WR Elijah Saratt (David) 8 points

Indy RB Justice Ellison (JD) 4 points

Indy RB Ty Son Lawton (Chip) 4 points

TRANSACTION: Team Patrick drops QB Quinn Ewers (Texas) and picks up QB Gunner Stockton, Georgia.

Rosters (LFG!)

Team Patrick's TE Tyler Warren in Technicolor

Here are the rosters - sorry they are a little late - I've been laid low with the latest cold going around.

Also Team David is picking up Tenn. WR Donte' Thornton, Jr. because Arizona State WR Jordan Tyson is injured and out.

Team Patrick is dropping WR Bond, Texas and picking up WR Omari Evans, Penn St. because Bond is doubtful to play. He is also going to drop RB Blue of Texas for RB Kaytron Allen, Penn St. (just because he wants to).

ALSO: If a player you drafted does not play because of injury or suspension, etc., DO NOT DESPAIR. Let me know what replacement you would like to have instead before game time for the new player you want, kicks off.

DRAFT LISTS

GENTLEMEN, here are some arranged positional draft lists organized loosely by stats.

These are the stat leaders from all 12 playoff games. But a word to the wise - please do your own homework. If someone was drafted by you and is injured it is ON YOU to pick a replacement that wasn't drafted. Everyone's rosters will be available on this site, so you'll know who is rostered.

Also this list does not include No. 2 or 3 runningbacks if they didn't at least post more than 300 yards this season, same with No. 3-5 receivers. There are some second RBs or third WRs from the same team listed here, if they put up numbers and are a part of the offense.

And, this goes with doing your own homework - if you want to pick someone not included here, cool. Just make sure they are playing for one of the 12 playoff teams.

WE ARE SO F*CKING BACK

My friends, it has been many moons, two presidential terms, and almost a decade that has brought us here.

A 12-team field - not too big, not too small but for now at least, just right. It means we'll have smaller rosters and a few less team owners, but I think we'll be okay.

Things looked bleak in recent years - despite the 4-team format, stars opted out of bowl games and everything kind of seemed pointless from a fantasy football point of view - no pun intended.

With 12 teams it means star players available that will be on the field for the bowl games. Although you may have a couple players going against each other in the first round, we will again be totaling up points scored for the entire bracket through the championship.

Less players per team means less points, but there is a remedy - a tweak in scoring.

SCORING

1 point per 10 yards rushing/receiving and 1.5 points every 40 yards passing. TDs will be 6, Passing TDs will be 4 and 2-point rushes, catches and passes all worth 2.

TEAM OWNERS

We could go as large as 6 but for this maiden voyage, I am thinking 5 is right - Chip, J.D., Greg, Patrick and myself. Also this works with the available players with 10 man rosters each.

ROSTERS

Positions 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 4 WRs, and 1 TE per team. 10 Rounds total.  The reason for tight ends? Why not. I am still anti-kicker for this format and it gives us another variant for points without going too deep into the receiver pool which is already stretched thin, if you figure 2 to 3 receivers per team and 12 playoff teams total. Which is between 24 to 36 usable guys. Instead of adding TEs to the WR mix, why not do a one position deal and see how it works.

Plus it takes us to a nice round number of 10 guys per team.

DRAFT

Stay tuned - we need to get it done soon. Sunday night could be an option but I'm home by 8:30 week nights. I would like to do it on Facebook Messenger. Patrick can be on the phone with me.

Bahamas Bowl Review
Old Dominion 24, Eastern Michigan 20

To the surprise of everyone, EMU actually competed. Old Dominion won its first FBS bowl title in a game with bland stats before an empty stadium.

But at least the Eagles (wearing their traditional gray and white uniforms) got free Popeye's.

Taylor-made for points

Armed Forces Bowl Review
Louisiana Tech 48, Navy 45

LA Tech combo QB Ryan Higgins and WR Trent Taylor went H.A.M. against Navy, standing for "hard as a mutha-f....." as the kids say.

Higgins passed for 400+ yards with four scoring passes and one rushing TD for the Bulldogs while favorite target Taylor piled up 230 yards and two scores.  Carlos Henderson had half the yards but added a pair of scores on highlight-reel grabs.

Nobody owned the Navy QB Zach Abby who cranked out 23 points.

(George) QB Higgins, LA Tech 28 points
(George) WR Taylor, LA Tech 24
(Dave H) WR Henderson, LA Tech 18
