East Carolina played its toughest competition of the season in Florida and fell short 28-20.

This despite racking up - wait for it - 32 first downs.  Both teams combined for six turnovers in a game that bordered on slopfest.

Then again it was hardly the bloody blowout some of us expected by a former SEC powerhouse still stocked with 5- and 4-star recruits as ECU gave 'em hell.

But the Pirates were feckless in the red zone and all-time ECU duo Shane Carden and Justin Hardy were held at bay despite good numbers - which could have been better.

Carden had 427 and two scores, one to Hardy who added 160 yards. No Gators were drafted.
