My friends, it has been many moons, two presidential terms, and almost a decade that has brought us here.
A 12-team field - not too big, not too small but for now at least, just right. It means we'll have smaller rosters and a few less team owners, but I think we'll be okay.
Things looked bleak in recent years - despite the 4-team format, stars opted out of bowl games and everything kind of seemed pointless from a fantasy football point of view - no pun intended.
With 12 teams it means star players available that will be on the field for the bowl games. Although you may have a couple players going against each other in the first round, we will again be totaling up points scored for the entire bracket through the championship.
Less players per team means less points, but there is a remedy - a tweak in scoring.
SCORING
1 point per 10 yards rushing/receiving and 1.5 points every 40 yards passing. TDs will be 6, Passing TDs will be 4 and 2-point rushes, catches and passes all worth 2.
TEAM OWNERS
We could go as large as 6 but for this maiden voyage, I am thinking 5 is right - Chip, J.D., Greg, Patrick and myself. Also this works with the available players with 10 man rosters each.
ROSTERS
Positions 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 4 WRs, and 1 TE per team. 10 Rounds total. The reason for tight ends? Why not. I am still anti-kicker for this format and it gives us another variant for points without going too deep into the receiver pool which is already stretched thin, if you figure 2 to 3 receivers per team and 12 playoff teams total. Which is between 24 to 36 usable guys. Instead of adding TEs to the WR mix, why not do a one position deal and see how it works.
Plus it takes us to a nice round number of 10 guys per team.
DRAFT
Stay tuned - we need to get it done soon. Sunday night could be an option but I'm home by 8:30 week nights. I would like to do it on Facebook Messenger. Patrick can be on the phone with me.
