Tre Cool

BCS National Championship Review

It was an instant classic as Florida State edged Auburn, and as the national championship came down to the wire, so did the Fantasy College Bowl.

Auburn RB Tre Mason's 37-yard touchdown run gave Team Patrick, which had its lead cut to about four to five points, was the death blow to David - adding up to an eight-point play after the yardage came together.

Final score: Patrick 255, David 249 in a reversal of how last year's top two teams finished.

The real-life winning play, a short touchdown pass to FSU WR Kelvin Benjamin (below), ended up as academic for yours truly, which had Auburn QB Nick Marshall going as well to Patrick's one player.

But it was that one player -
Mason (top), who totaled over 240 rushing and receiving yards and accounted for two TDs, one running and one receiving, which proved too much.

All told, Mason finished with 23 points which for Patrick's team's 10-point lead going in, was all he needed.

A number of fantasy interests were well represented, led by Marshall (lower right) who passed for 217 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 45 yards and one more.

The No. 2 team coming in, George, lost ground in the points chase with FSU QB Jameis Winston (above), who started slow, got shut down and came to life late. Winston finished with 237 yards passing and two touchdowns with an extra point running, giving the team third.

Four other players- FSU receivers Greene and Shaw as well as RB Freeman and Auburn WR Coates factored in the fantasy scoring for both Chip and JD, but none affected the top three teams' outcome.

(PATRICK) RB Mason, Auburn   23 points
(DAVID) QB Marshall, Auburn  19 points
(CHIP) WR Coates, Auburn  3 points
(GEORGE) QB Winston, Florida State  12 points
(JD) RB Freeman, Florida State 10 points
(DAVID) WR Benjamin, Florida State   8 points
(JD) WR Greene, Florida State  7 points
(CHIP) WR Shaw, Florida State  0 points

Despite its lack of fantasy relevance, what a play - for real.
